More from GoldDerby

“The Bear” claimed Best Comedy Series for the second time, Best Comedy Actor (Jeremy Allen White), Best Comedy Supporting Actor (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Best Comedy Guest Actress (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Best Comedy Episode (“Fishes”). In addition, the FX dramedy claimed Ensemble of the Year, which makes it the first half-hour series to win for its cast since “Community” 12 years ago. Ultimately, “The Bear” only lost three categories. Best Comedy Actress and Best Comedy Supporting Actress both went to “Hacks” (Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, respectively), while Best Comedy Guest Actor was awarded to “Saturday Night Live” (Ryan Gosling).

“Shogun” prevailed as Best Drama Series and nearly swept the rest of the drama awards including both lead acting races (for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai), Best Drama Supporting Actor (Tadanobu Asano), Best Drama Guest Actor (Nestor Carbonell) and Best Drama Episode (“Crimson Sky”). There were only two drama awards it didn’t win, and both of those went to “The Crown”: Best Drama Supporting Actress (Elizabeth Debicki) and Best Drama Guest Actress (Claire Foy).

Our voters spread the wealth a little more in the movie/limited series categories, where four shows were recognized in the six races. “Baby Reindeer” was the biggest winner with three awards: Best Limited Series, Best Movie/Limited Actor (Richard Gadd) and Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actress (Jessica Gunning). The other winners claimed one prize apiece. “Fargo” was awarded Best Movie/Limited Actress (Juno Temple). “Fellow Travelers” came away with Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actor (Jonathan Bailey). And “Red, White & Royal Blue” was our derbyites’ choice for Best TV Movie.

We presented two categories that are absent from the Emmys, awards that honor the overall achievements of individual performers throughout the eligibility period. Breakthrough Performer of the Year went to Sawai, a double winner here and in Best Drama Actress. And the prestigious Performer of the Year honor was bestowed on Ayo Edebiri, who interestingly won the Breakthrough Performer award in 2023. What a difference a year makes.
